On Monday, August 10, 2026, during a press conference organized by Lucien Jura, Secretary of State for Communication, Marc-Elie Nelson, Minister of Social Affairs and Labor (MAST), and the Director of Labor, Ms. Guerline Jean-Louis, provided clarifications on the adjustments to petroleum product prices and public transportation fares.

Minister Nelson justified the government's position by stating that fuel price fluctuations remain closely linked to those observed on the international market. "We want to avoid conflicts between drivers and passengers. This is what led the government to set prices for the various public transportation routes," the Minister explained, indicating that this decision was made in agreement with the drivers' unions.

For his part, Lucien Jura explained, "[...] since the resumption of hostilities in the Middle East, the price of oil has been steadily increasing internationally, forcing importing countries like Haiti to make adjustments. After three downward revisions to fuel prices, the government is now forced to raise them. These repeated interventions aim to prevent any form of shortage on the local market. They also intend to put an end to the black market."
