Haiti - Tourism : The Best Western Hotel of Pétion ville will open its doors in summer 2012

The hotel of the chain Best Western of Pétion ville, a 7-storey building with a capacity of 105 rooms, which will include among other : a full-service restaurant, banquet space for up to 140 people and a SPA, is under reconstruction, at a cost estimated at $ 20 million [unofficial figures]. This luxury hotel, will carry the label "Premier" one of two new brands launched last year and should open in summer 2012. It will be one of the first new hotels to open in Haiti since January 12, 2010.

"This is not typical of what everybody would think of Haiti," declared this week Mark Williams, vice president of Best Western for North American development, at the Americas Lodging Investment Summit in Los Angeles. Indicating that despite the poverty of Haiti, the country had business customers, from Europe and South America that justifies an upscale hotel "When you go into markets that a lot of people consider Third World, there's a lot of business there and a lot of people who will pay for the quality of product" declared Mark Williams. For his part, David Kong, president and chief executive of Best Western recalls that "The segments that are the most profitable are the upscale and upper mid-scale."
