Haiti - Education : 2026-2027 School Year

On Monday, September 7, 2026, Vijonet Déméro, the Minister of National Education, officially launched the 2026-2027 academic year at a ceremony held at the Horatius Laventure High School in Delmas 75. Under the theme Yon lekòl pou tout moun (One School for Everyone) this new school year is committed to inclusion, non-discrimination, and equal opportunities, with the goal of guaranteeing every child access to a quality education.

The Minister extended his warmest wishes for success and peace to the entire educational community and his staff:

"To our dear students : May this year be synonymous with discovery, learning, and personal growth. Give your best; you are the future of the Nation. To our teachers and school principals : Thank you for your unwavering dedication and your indispensable role in transmitting knowledge and guiding future generations.

To the tireless parents : The Ministry commends your courage, your sacrifices, and your essential partnership in supporting children on their path to success.

To our valued partners : National and international organizations, education unions, and civil society, we thank you for your continued support and commitment to making this theme a reality.

Happy start of the school year to everyone !"

The Minister emphasized the need to place students and learning at the heart of education. He reaffirmed the Government's commitment to strengthening the education system, particularly through the appointment of teachers, the distribution of textbooks and uniforms, financial assistance to parents (Education Cash Transfer), the improvement of learning conditions, access to technology, and the development of academic and career guidance.

International partners also renewed their commitment to education. UNICEF Representative Geetanjali Narayan presented the support measures planned to ensure educational continuity, assist children affected by the crisis, strengthen their protection, and guarantee their well-being.

For her part, Lauren Landis, Representative of the World Food Programme (WFP), reaffirmed the importance of school meals as a lever for social protection, academic success, and local development, particularly through the project aimed at increasing the proportion of local agricultural products in school canteens.

Note that back-to-school ceremonies were held at the 10 Departmental Directorates of Education (DDE).
