Haiti - CARACOL : 13.4 MW, Haiti’s largest solar power plant, to be operational next month.
During an official visit to Haiti’s far north, Joseph Almathe Pierre Louis, the Minister of Public Works, visited the Caracol solar power plant construction site to assess the project's progress. This major initiative aligns directly with the government’s plan to boost national electricity generation and accelerate the transition to clean, renewable energy.
During the visit, technical teams presented updates on infrastructure development and outlined the facility's capacity specifications. Funded by the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) at a cost of $57 million, the project spans two sites comprising a total of 21,276 solar panels; the second site alone accounts for 14,622 of these. The infrastructure includes two substations with a combined capacity of 13.4 MW, with the first substation alone providing 9.5 MW. To ensure grid stability, the system also incorporates four large battery energy storage systems (BESS), each with a capacity of 3.7 MW.
Once fully operational, the plant will be capable of feeding approximately 5 MW into the grid, thereby improving electricity supply for households and businesses throughout the region. The Minister expressed satisfaction with the progress of the work, with the project's final completion scheduled for October 2026.
