Made in Haiti is not a dream

On Thursday, October 1st, 2026, at the Karibe Hotel, during the launch of the first edition of Industry Week, organized around the theme "Towards the Revitalization of the Haitian Industrial Sector" https://www.icihaiti.com/en/news-48575-launch-of-the-first-edition-of-industry-week-on-haiti.html , James Monazard, Minister of Commerce and Industry, advocated for a diversified Haitian industry. In his address, he emphasized the strategic importance of industry for the country's economic future. "Because a country that doesn't discuss what it produces leaves it to others to decide what it will consume," he stated. He also emphasized the multifaceted nature of Haitian industry, which calls for in-depth reflection on its future and, above all, on the need to diversify the national industrial base in order to reduce dependence on a single sector or on decisions made outside the country. In this regard, Monazard stressed the importance of strengthening the foundations of national industry, supporting local production, and improving the mobilization of the various stakeholders.

Prime Minister Alix Didier Fils-Aimé welcomed the MCI initiative, which brings together the government, the private sector, entrepreneurs, and partners to engage in a joint reflection on the future of Haitian industry. "Revitalizing our industry means reducing our dependence on imports by leveraging our local resources, creating wealth and stable jobs for our youth, and strengthening our economy in an increasingly competitive world," stated the Prime Minister. On this occasion, he called for the development of national resources and invited Haitian youth to seize the opportunities offered during the three days of Industry Week 2026.

Speaking on behalf of Sandra Paulemon, the Minister of Planning and External Cooperation, Guy Romero Latry, the Director General of the Ministry, emphasized the need to focus more on the country's productive capacity. "Haiti's recovery will depend on what we produce ourselves. Made in Haiti is not a dream. It's a choice," he declared, paraphrasing Minister Paulemon. Latry also advocated for a modern and sustainable industry, particularly through the exploitation of opportunities offered by renewable energies, recycling, waste management, clean technologies, and digital technologies. He further underscored the importance of human capital in the development of national industry.

At the close of this first day, Panel Paulémont, Director General of the Ministry of Industry and Commerce (MCI), reiterated the crucial role of industry in the national economy. He emphasized that this initiative represents a starting point for a more modern and dynamic industry. Furthermore, he called for strong mobilization from all stakeholders, believing that their collective commitment is essential to enabling the industrial sector to gain momentum and better contribute to the country's economic development.
