Haiti - Social : End of the ILO mission in Haiti on labor law

Ms. Cléopatra Doumbia-Henry, Director of International Labour Standards Department, International Labour Organization (ILO), with Ms Tania Caron, Senior Specialist of International Labour Standards at the ILO, joined by Antonio Cruciani, Coordinator of the ILO for the reconstruction have completed this week a mission of six days.

See how factors relating to labor law are governed by national legislation and the way the country is implementing its international obligations relating to treaties and conventions it has signed, that it has ratified and accepted, these were the objectives of the ILO mission in Haiti.

Have participated in discussions during this mission with the ILO,Pierre Michel Brunache, Minister of Justice, François Richel Lafaille, Minister of Social Affairs and Labour, Me Anel Joseph, President of the Court of Cassation, the President and the Clerk of Court Labour, social partners including employers, represented by the Association of Industries of Haiti (ADIH), trade unions and sections Justice and Human Rights of the Minustah.

Among the issues discussed : teh labor law, freedom of association, collective bargaining, discrimination at work, child labor, health and safety and the protection and social security. Ms. Cléopatra Doumbia-Henry has described of "enormous" the challenges facing by Haiti to achieve the implementation of standards relating to labor law. Among these, that of building and operating the rule of law, stressing that the government can not do everything, it is necessary that the employers and the union brings their contribution, "Not only to the functioning of the rule of law but also in job creation and the search for solutions to various problems affecting the country."
