Haiti - Economy : Border markets, nearly 900 million of sales for the Dominicans...

According to a report published by the Center for Export and Investment of the Dominican Republic (CEI-RD), the Dominicans have sold to Haiti, from January 2004 to December 2010, through the border trade where Dominicans and Haitians are doing business weekly [Jimaní, Dajabón, Elías Piña et Pedernales], goods worth a total of 872.7 million U.S. dollars.

Most transactions were made ​​at the border of Jimaní where, during this period (7 years), the sales of products Dominicans sold to Haitian was estimated at 541.6 million dollars, mainly : otton fabrics, clothing made ​​of synthetic fibers, steel rods for construction, various edible, cement gray, antidiarrheal, flour wheat, fuel and tents, among others...

At the border market of Dajabón have been sold for a value of 143.8 million : cotton, wheat flour, cement gray, chicken and offal, tank tops and other textiles, broken rice, bananas, pasta, detergent powder and other.

At the market of Elias Piña reported 105.7 million in the sale of wheat flour, plastic bags, zinc plates, steel rods, broken rice, cement, automotive paint, cookies, soy oil and other various products.

The market of Pedernales where transactions are more modest, sold mainly, wheat flour, desiccated coconut, black beans, used clothing, salami, raw sugar cane, bananas, detergent powder, household utensils and other plastics for a total 14.3 millions.

The report states that sales on the border markets, for an amount of 67.3 million, were made in other sectors, without specifying its nature. During the first 9 months [January 2010 to September 2011], the CEI-RD has identified a total of 1,334 product lines: industrial, agricultural and crafts exported to Haiti.
