Haiti - Health : A mini-hospital on the course of the Carnival

Sophia Martelly, the First Lady of Haiti, which has pledged to work for the welfare of the population, has installed for this purpose, an Intervention Centre in intensive medical care, on the course of the Carnival of Flowers.

Indeed, since the Carnival of Les Cayes, it was found that most emergency situations, were cases of suffocation, most often in people with asthma. Through this Centre, they can be quickly received by the first aid team and receive oxygen, or care that their case requires. The Mini hospital has many medical facilities and physicians on site, are able to make a anesthesia and interventions in case of injuries, fractures... and also to treat headache, hypoglycemia, pneumothorax etc...

Sunday, the team of the Emergency Centre, was composed of 5 doctors, 12 nurses, 6 rescue workers, and of nursing students of the University of Notre Dame, all volunteers. For Monday and Tuesday, the Centre has increased its staff, to provide a more responsive service. 3 ambulances whose one serving as a mini-pharmacy, are available for evacuations.

The Office of National Insurance, Labour and Maternity (OFATMA) and the Presidency, through the Office of the First Lady, came together for an effective response against incidents and/or accidents that may occur on the route of the carnival.

Sophia Martelly, believes that with this gesture, less revelers succumb to injuries or other accidents, for lack of intensive care.

The Presidential Couple take this opportunity to wish everybody, a Happy Carnival of Flowers.
