Haiti - USA : U.S. Department of State Welcomes Youth Ambassadors from Haiti

The Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs welcomed Youth Ambassadors from Haiti to the United States on Friday to participate in a three-week cultural exchange.

Twenty Haitian youth and two adult mentors will travel to the New York City metropolitan area and Washington, D.C. to live with host families and participate in a variety of civic education, community service, and youth leadership development activities with their American counterparts.

The youth participants, aged 15 to 18, have demonstrated outstanding leadership potential, a commitment to public service, and interest in improving their local communities. On August 22, the participants are scheduled to meet with Cheryl Mills, Secretary Hillary Rodham Clinton’s Counselor and Chief of Staff, who leads U.S. Department of State efforts in Haiti.

The Youth Ambassadors Program brings together high school students and adult mentors from 25 countries across the Americas to promote mutual understanding, increase leadership skills, and prepare youth to make a difference in their communities. More than 400 Youth Ambassadors participate in the program each year.

This is the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs' second delegation of Youth Ambassadors from Haiti.
