Haiti - Economy : The Prime Minister evoked the road tolls

On Friday, the Prime Minister, Laurent Lamothe stated that the Government was considering the installation of toll booths on major roads, in order to collect the revenue required to maintain roads.

Indeed, the Road Maintenance Fund (FER), the body responsible for this task, does not have sufficient financial resources to carry out its mission. That is why, the roads in which millions of U.S. dollars have been invested, are deteriorating after 2 or 3 years, for lack of adequate maintenance of their surface, deplored the Head of Government.

This is not the first time that is evoked in Haiti, that the drivers will contributes to fund road maintenance, as do other countries including our neighbor Dominican "We plan to place a toll booth on one of our national roads" as pilot advised the Prime Minister, which stresses the importance of clearly defining among others : the amount payable for the distance traveled, the mechanism allowing to ensure, that each driver fulfills its payment and that the money collected, funds really the FER, so that it fills its Mission properly.
