Haiti - Justice : End of Assize in Petit-Goâve

Friday, August 10, 2012, Me Jean Alix Civil, the Government Commissioner at the Court of First Instance of Petit-Goâve, announced, that the second session of Assize with and without assistance of jury, which began Aug. 2, 2012 ended this Friday, August 10.

During this period, the prosecution has sued before the courts, approximately 40 citizens accused among other : of assassination, murder, criminal conspiracy, attempted murder, armed robbery, of kidnapping and of various illegal trafficking... and pronounced the following judgments :

3 accused were sentenced to forced labor for life

5 accused were sentenced to 6 to 12 years of forced labor

1 accused was sentenced to 6 years of forced labor

3 accused were sentenced to 5 years of forced labor

1 accused was sentenced to 4 years and 6 years of of forced labor

6 accused were sentenced to 3 years of forced labor

3 accused were sentenced to 2 years of forced labor

6 other accused were acquitted...

It should be noted that during these Assize, the records of several citizens were treated and evacuated in real time, that is to say within the time specified by the procedure governing the matter.

In addition, the Government Commissioner of Petit-Goâve, took the opportunity to officially launch the program against the moral depravity of youth in the jurisdiction of Petit-Goâve "As worth the Nation, As worth the Youth, that is why jointly : the prosecutor, the Justice and the National Police of Haiti, will travel around the city during the festivities of Notre Dame, to take action against the activities of debauchery and against any behavior detrimental to public decency."
