Following the signing of a Memorandum of Agreement July 20, 2012, between Prime Minister, Laurent Lamothe and Ambassador of the Republic of China (Taiwan) in Port-au-Prince, Liu Bang-Zyh, concerning among other the construction of a hospital in Les Cayes, for the Office of Workers' Compensation Insurance, Sickness and Maternity (OFATMA), the Prime Minister, accompanied by Ambassador of the Republic of China in Haiti, of Jean Jacques Charles, the Director General of OFATMA, representatives of the international community and members of the Government, has proceeded this week, to the official launch of construction work of the new Hospital, in Vernet.

Work will be performed by the Taiwanese company OECC and funded by the Taiwanese cooperation to the tune of 3 million U.S. dollars. This new hospital will include 50 beds, able to make 5.000 consultations per month to the benefit of the people of Les Cayes and its surroundings, will be creator of a hundred jobs in the health sector.

"[...] I am very happy to tell to the populationthat the work is started, so that May 14, 2013, the hospital is opened, declared the Prime Minister.

The financial envelope [7.8 million] provided ​​by Taiwan, will also allow the construction of a school and of housing in the Southern Department, mainly in the city of Les Cayes.
