Haiti - Reconstruction : Towards the future Basilica Notre-Dame of Petit-Goâve...

Sunday, August 19, Engineer Cange [native of Petit-Goâve], accompanied by an architect and the engineer geologist Claude Prepti, Head of the Seismic Monitoring Unit, presented to the Catholic faithful of Petit-Goâve, the draft of the future Basilica Notre-Dame, destroyed by the earthquake of January 2010. A draft who is close in terms of aesthetic, despite some changes, to the old architecture of the Basilica Notre-Dame.

"We are only at the first phase [...] we came gather people's opinions and then we'll make the final plan. The building will be rebuilt in the same location, but its capacity will be increased," stated the engineer Cange.

In his speech, the geologist Claude Prepti indicated that the construction site presents no danger on a seismic point of view. He pointed out that the faults that cross the entire peninsula South from Lake Enriquillo through the Morne Tapion until Tiburon, do not cross the center of Petit-Goâve, but through the bay under the sea, saying that this Basilica can be rebuilt in the same place as long as the anti-seismic standards are met."

Taking advantage of his visit in the town, Claude Prepti, urged on the airwaves of Radio Préférence fm, the goâvienne population, to not build anyhow, or anywhere, both in the cities that in the rural zones.
