Haiti - Economy : Training Seminar on the national census of businesses

Friday, August 17, 2012, Mr. Wilson Laleau, the Minister of Trade and Industry has proceeded to the launching of a training seminar for two days on the National Census of Business in the country, in the presence of his chief of staff, Mr. Hugues Joseph, of the Director General of the Ministry, Mr. Luc Espéca, of Secretary of State for Tax Reform, Ronald Décembre, that of the Public Security, Mr. Réginald Delva among others. More than a dozen departmental officials of Ministry and of the Haitian Institute of Statistics (IHSI) have also responded to the invitation of the Minister.

During his speech, Mr. Laleau a particular emphasis on the reasons having motivated him to want to identify all businesses in the country and establish a statistical database on trade and entrepreneurship. Without this census, has indicated the Minister, we can not afford to define strategies, makes government actions likely to promote economic growth, encourage young entrepreneurs and create more jobs. To do this end, he declared, we have taken care to involve all departmental directors of the country and the Chambers of Commerce, so that they give their contribution to help us reach our goal.

"We can not create millions of sustainable jobs if we do not have enough information on the number of businesses that operate in Haiti and how the Haitian government can help them. This will help us to modernize the national economy," delcared the minister.

In addition, Mr. Laleau believes hat it is urgent to change the present condition of our businesses by seeking and supporting projects that do not always have the needed boost. To do this, he says he's determined to transform the country through a series of actions that will bring the growth, employment and development, as advocated by the administration Martelly-Lamothe.
