Haiti - Humanitarian : Donation of a portable X-ray machine

The Avera Gregory Hospital (Dakota, USA) donated a portable x-ray machine. The machine was turned over to the Haitian Health Foundation (HHF) for shipment to Haiti.

Cheryl Duimstra, radiology manager at the Avera Gregory Hospital, explained that the hospital after having bought a new portable machine, has decided to donate the surplus one to help public health efforts in Haiti, instead of trying to sell it. The hospital contacted HHF, because the Avera headquarters in Sioux Falls works with HHF to send volunteer health care provider teams to Haiti.

Jeremiah Lowney, Jr. HHF founder, [NGO working in Haiti for 30 years], thanked Avera Gregory Hospital for their support. "You personally know how hundreds of poor people come to the HHF Clinic each day seeking medical help [...] Of course, x-rays are used [to HHF] continually to diagnose and treat numerous conditions, and having this machine will enhance our ability to provide care to more people," especially in our Center of Hope located close to Jérémie, in southwestern Haiti.
