Haiti - Environment : Waste collection being organized

As part of the transformation of waste into energy, Donald parison, the Director General of the Metropolitan Service of Collection of Solid Waste (SMCRS) explained "[...] It's been a year and a half that SMCRS and the Government are in talks with 5 or 6 investors who are interested in the transformation of waste into energy. There are 2 with whom we have very serious conversations and with which the Government is already committed [International Electric Power (IEP), projet Phoenix, agreements signed on March 30 and Thursday, May 3, 2012] that will collect waste in coordination with the SMCRS and convert waste into renewable energy 30MW [project of 250 million U.S. dollars].

[...] In the coordination that we already made with them, we can see that they are very serious about the issue. They visited with us Mayoka, an island in Spain that uses the same technology [...] all the energy of the island comes from the processing of waste.

[...] we already have approximately 14,000 bins house, within 3 months, we will make a distribution of bins to people who can pay. We will make the collection for them door to door. [...] This is the first test and we have our team working on residential neighborhoods in which we will make the distribution.

Meanwhile, we have other solutions for about 99 neighborhoods, where our trucks can not enter, the streets are too narrow... we have already identified 10 to 12 spaces, that we can develop, where residents of these neighborhoods, will deposit their waste and we will collect them. Currently, these wastes are in the streets, canals, and when the rain falls, they go down, clog drains and cause flooding and cause a number of problems [...] when will will have spaces well organized, with staff and depending on the volume of waste that people produce, we can come collect them every day, every two days..."
