Haiti - Social : DINEPA inaugurated 33 Water Treatment Stations

Last week in Hatte Chevreau, second communal section of Marchand Dessalines, Lionel Joseph Duvalsaint, Director General of the National Directorate of Water Supply and Sanitation (DINEPA), accompanied by a large delegation composed of representatives of the AECID, IDB and local authorities, proceeded to the inauguration of 33 water treatment stations, including three new stations installed to Hatte Chevreau, Gilbert and Chevreau des cloches, financed up to U.S. $ 80,000 each and 30 other stations, that have been rehabilitated in various localities of the Artibonite.

These water treatment stations, that will serve more than 30,000 people living along the Artibonite River in the municipalities of Saint-Marc, Grande Saline, Desdunes, Estère and Marchand Dessalines, reflect the will of the Haitian government through DINEPA, to improve access to water for the population of the lower Artibonite while reducing the risk of waterborne diseases such as cholera, stressed Lionel Joseph Duvalsaint.

DINEPA rely on a modest contribution of citizens, two gourdes per bucket, in order to self-finance the maintenance costs of these stations.
