On the occasion of the first anniversary of his appointment, the Consul General of Haiti in New York, Charles A. Forbin, gave a positive report of this first year and sent a message to the Haitian diaspora community of New York.

"Dear compatriots,

On this day, November 2, 2012, which marks the first anniversary of my appointment at the head of the Consulate General of the Republic of Haiti in New York, it belongs to me to express my deep gratitude for the support you gave me during the past twelve months.

This is also an opportunity for me to reiterate my solidarity with and to solicit your continued support in this difficult task that incumbent upon me.

Since my appointment in November 2011, first as acting Consul General, then confirmed by the Haitian Senate, as Consul General, March 14, 2012, am committed to building a solid Consulate General, with a goal clear that to provide you with efficient services, in accordance with the provisions of the Vienna Convention of 1963 governing consular relations. We have accomplished much and am proud of what has been achieved. The Consulate General is dedicated to your service.

The Consulate General remains open daily until 6pm, and Saturday open from 9 am until 2 p.m., to facilitate those among you who do not have the time to come during regular hours. This is the first time such a measure was introduced in the missions of the Republic of Haiti abroad, and it has been implemented by other consulates.

The service at home for elderly or disabled is another service created under my administration.

In addition, we maintain a constant relationship with the Haitian press, written and spoken.

We visit churches of our consular district which serve a large number of compatriots

We promote Haitian art, every two months, the work of an artist is exposed to the Consulate General.

Our pioneering internship program, launched in February 2012, was a success. Three university students come to spend three months at the Consulate General where they had the opportunity to familiarize themselves with the work done by the Consulate.

It remains certainly challenges, and I ask for your help, not only for the proper functioning of the Consulate General, but also for the advancement of our country. Do everything in our power to achieve peace between us all. Share a common vision for Haiti, that of a prosperous Haiti, thanks to our help.

As urged Dag Hammarskjöld, the second Secretary-General of the United Nations, despite the inherent limitations of human development, we must act in accordance with our best understanding and participate in the creative process to which we have the privilege of be associated."
