Haiti - Reconstruction : The Japanese Engineering Company will leave Haiti for good

Last week, during a reception in Tabarre, on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the Japanese participation in peacekeeping operations of the United Nations, Ambassador of Japan accredited to Haiti, Kenji Kuratomi announced that the Japanese Engineering Company, has reached the end of its mission and will leave Haiti for good before the end of this year.

Recall that the first Japanese contingent arrived in Haiti on 7 February 2010, and since then, nearly 2,200 members of theJapanese engineering corps, had been deployed by rotation in different department of Haiti to perform demolition work, removal of debris from various sites affected (hospitals, schools, etc...) and proceed with the rehabilitation of several roads, a total of 254 interventions.

The Ambassador stated that, before its departure, the Japanese Engineering Company (JAPENGCOY) of the Minustah in Port-au-Prince, had established the "Project Kizuna" https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-5693-haiti-education-japengcoy-puts-its-expertise-at-the-service-of-young-haitians.html , whose objective was to train Haitian technicians in the use and maintenance of heavy equipment used by the Japanese contingent. These technicians who successfully completes their final exam, received a national certificate of competency recognized by the Government of Haiti.

"Despite the imminent departure of our contingent, we wish to assure the Haitian government of our commitment to continue to accompany it in its efforts of change for the well-being of the Haitian people and the sustainable development of Haiti," declared the Ambassador of Japan.

Jacques Rousseau, Minister of Public Works, who attended the reception praised the quality of relations between the two countries and wished that they reinforce for the benefit of the Haitian people and Japanese.
