Wednesday, November 21, the Ambassador of Haiti to Mexico, Guy G. Lamothe, inaugurated the exhibition "Haití historias y sueños" (Haiti, stories and dreams), at the Museum of the Mexican Chancellery located in the historic center of Mexico City.

The ceremony took place in the presence of the diplomatic corps, representatives of the Foundation Banamex (Banco Nacional de México), members of the Haitian community in Mexico and several experts. Were present among others, former Mexican Ambassador in Haiti, Carlos Ferrer and Sergio Romero and former Haitian Ambassador to Mexico, Pierre Lelong and many Mexican entrepreneurs.

More than 70 works of great masters from different regions of Haiti, are showcased in this exhibition, which will extend over a period of four months "Beside the dynamic cooperation between the two countries, Haiti needs a market for its cultural industry," declared Ambassador Lamothe "Our country is open for business and one of the products we can offer to the Mexicans is our culture," The diplomat has put emphasis on the internationalization of Haitian art and invited the Mexican to better know Haiti through art and culture, two instruments that allow breaking the barriers between people.

Speaking at the ceremony, Ambassador Rogelio Granguillhome, Director of the Amexid (Mexican Agency for International Development Cooperation), argued the support brought by Mexico to Haiti since the 2010 earthquake.

For his part, Professor Carlos Alba, of the prestigious "Colegio de Mexico" traced the history of iron cut in the Haitian crafts, speaking of the origins of this technique, its evolution, of artists who excel and of the artistic value and historical of works. Raffaella Cedraschi, the Curator, presented to the public the entire exhibition with an emphasis on the Voodoo rituals and "veve flags" that occupy a large part of the works alongside many cut iron creations.

This cultural event, comes a few days after the holding of first Haiti investment forum in Mexico and two weeks after the signing of an agreement on cultural cooperation between Mario Dupuy, Minister of Culture of Haiti and his counterpart Ms. Lilian Chan Villanueva, of the state of Quintana ROO.

The Embassy of Haiti in Mexico and the Mexican Chancellery, intend to take advantage of four months of the exhibition, to conduct tours for Mexican schools, present conferences and screen movies to promote a positive image of Haiti in Mexico.

To raise awareness the Mexican society to Haitian culture, the Embassy, in collaboration with the Mexican Chancellery, has planned a series of activities with schools and universities, both public and private.
