Tuesday, a major joint police operation involving the Directorate General of Taxes (DGI), the Prosecutor of Port-au-Prince, the Unit for Combating Corruption (ULCC) and the National Police of Haiti (PNH), has led to the dismantling of a network of counterfeiters and the seized of numerous fake documents and copies of administrative seals. These counterfeiters operated from 3 centers, one located on the street of Casernes, in Port-au-Prince.

Wednesday in press conference, Jean Baptiste Clark Neptune, Director of DGI clarified "This operation has been requested by the DGI after the conclusion of the movement of a large volume of false documents in the country these days."

Lucmane Délile, the Government Commissioner declared, that during this operation, 24 people were arrested, charged with forgery and use of false and imprisoned. Stressing that an investigation was ongoing and that more arrests would take place. "Justice has relevant information which should enable him to dismantle all networks."

Judicial authorities presented to the press a set of fake documents seized, made ​​by counterfeiters include: marriage records, birth, death, baptism certificates, extracts archives, diplomas of end of studies university and secondary, patent, certificates of good conduct, cash receipts and receipts, as well as copies of seals of civil courts of the country and even of the Prosecution of Port-au-Prince.

Michael Gédéon, the Head of the Departmental Directorate of West of the National Police, congratulated the establishment of a committee to fight against corruption and smuggling, which allows the sharing of information between the different institutions.

Jean Baptiste Clark Neptune stressed "It is sure that it has an impact on tax revenues [...] They are them who earn the money that should go to the state revenue," noting that beyond the tax implications, the existence of such networks has a negative effect on the country's image.

The Government Commissioner was satisfied with the outcome of this operation and reiterated its determination to put an end to these activities by stopping all lawbreakers.
