Haiti - Justice : New «anti-corruption hotline»

Within the framework of its mission to fight corruption in Haiti, La Fondation Héritage pour Haïti (LFHH), the Haiti chapter of Transparency International (TI), in partnership with the Office of the Inspector General (OIG) of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), launched a new Anti-corruption Hotline to prevent fraudulent and corrupt practices within the programs and projects funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) in Haiti.

LFHH and the OIG presented this week this new tool to the representatives of the Haitian government, to the partners of USAID in Haiti and the civil society.

Research conducted by LFHH in Haiti after the 2010 earthquake demonstrated that corrupt and fraudulent practices infiltrate humanitarian programs, as well as community development, health, education and governance support programs, and undermine the efforts to achieve tangible and enduring results for the country and the Haitian people.

The OIG is engaged in a relentless effort to stop all corrupt and fraudulent practices that may compromise the results of the programs of USAID in Haiti. Toward this end, the OIG has teamed up with LFHH, long standing partner of USAID, to create this "Anti-corruption Hotline" that will enable victims or witnesses of corrupt and fraudulent practices within USAID-funded programs and projects to report these practices and provoke an investigation by the OIG team.

A toll-free number, *550 has been set up as well as an e-mail address, anticorruptionhotline@hushmail.com.

LFHH and the OIG will ensure the confidentiality of all the complaints received.
