Haiti - Social : Launch of the 6th Edition of the Carnival «Dous makos» of Petit-Goâve 17/01/2013 12:32:32
Tuesday at the Hotel Fort Royal, the members of the Committee of Carnival of Petit-Goâve have launched together with the Mayor of the city, the 6th edition of the carnival "Dous makos" 2013, which will take place this year on 9 and 12 February, around the theme "350 kout chapo pou Ti gwav", in reference to the commemoration, during this year, of 350 years of the foundation of the town of Petit-Goâve. After welcoming remarks and greetings of uses, Hugo Allen, the President of the carnival declared "This year we will organize the 6th Edition of the Carnival, in the context of the celebration of the 350th anniversary of the foundation of Petit-Goâve, a difficult economic context in which the city has lost many jobs due to the departure of several NGOs. However, we will make every effort in order to give a a special touch to the Carnival of Petit-Goâve [...] We intend through the 6th Edition: draw attention on the 350 year of the history of Petit-Goâve ; bring in Petit-Goave many tourists from here and the Diaspora ; Gather all Petit-Goâviens around this great cultural even ; Enhance our sites and historical figures ; Expose wealth and local opportunities ; Put the emphasis on hat, a product of our crafts ; sanitation of the environment and of course, entertain revelers." The President explained that, contrary to previous editions, that of this year, will last 4 days, from 9 to 12 February 2013. 9 and 12 February will be devoted to parades. 6 allegorical floats including that of the 350 years of Petit-Goâve, the float of the Emperor Faustin 1st, the float "Dous makos" and that representing the historic site of Fort-Liberté, will parade in the street Faustin (Downtown), Place of Abeilles (avenue de la Hatte). 15 walking bands will take part in carnival festivities and masked groups of 30 to 50 people will succeed on the course. Some participants will wear costumes and other masks, which will showcase among other things: the glory days of the city, historical figures and men and women of PetitGoâve, who have excelled in various fields such as health, education, painting, politics... In addition, a decorating contest of strategic key points of the city will be launched. In this regard, Hugo Allen, asked the owners of the houses along the route of the carnival, to well decorate them. Sandra Jules, the Mayor of the city, has appealed for the cooperation of all, for this 6th edition, whose the budget amount 16 million gourdes, be a success.
