Haiti - Politic : Pierre-Richard Casimir rejects the statements of Nigel Fisher

Monday, Pierre-Richard Casimir, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, has firmly rejected the statements made at a press conference last Friday by Nigel Fisher Special Representative of the Deputy Secretary General of the United Nations in Haiti and interim Head of the Minustah.

Nigel Fisher had declared among other things that "the general impression that prevails among members of the Security Council and Friends of Haiti, is that of an impasse. Of course there has been progress, but they were much, much slower than we expected at the beginning of 2012 [...] if 'Haiti is open for business', some say yes, but the majority, after a period of reflection, are saying, 'Not yet' [...]"

The Chancellor Casimir considers that these statements "do not correspond to the reality or the type of speech that must use the representative of the United Nations," adding that "the Haitian government has made great efforts to improve the business climate in the country to attract the largest number of potential investors [...] There has been much progress and the government continues to take steps to improve the rule of law and the legal security in the country," while acknowledging that much remains to be done.
