Haiti - Economy : The IMF increased by 7,4 million the line of credit of Haiti 12/03/2013 10:08:33
Following the earthquake of January 2010, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) had cleared 268 million debt of Haiti and granted in July 2010, a line of credit, of up to $60 million over 3 years, in exchange of structural reforms. Monday, as part of this line of credit, the IMF announced, having made available to the Haitian authorities, an additional amount of $7.4 million, bringing to 54.1 million the total amount of loans unblocked by the institution. This additional support follows the IMF assessment conducted last December, when the institution found that in 2012, growth reached only 4.5%, a rate lower than expected, insufficient to reduce poverty in Haiti. However, the IMF had considered that the implementation of the program of reforms required in exchange for the aid was "relatively satisfactory", even if the government should further increase its "internal resources" and limit the public spending. The IMF had also estimated that the economic growth of Haiti, could reach 6-7% in 2013 "in an environment of political stability and security" and provided that the reconstruction of the country is accelerating.
