Haiti - Justice : An alleged Dominican Caïd arrested in Canapé Vert

Saturday, during a joint operation of the Central Directorate of the Judicial Police (DCPJ) and of the U.S. Agency for anti-drug (DEA), Raymundo Peña Antonio Martinez, sought since December 2012, which was the subject of an international arrest warrant, was arrested at a gas station in Canapé Vert.

The man who was hiding under a false identity of Domingo Ramón Toribio Paulino, is suspectedof being a caid of a large network of international drug trafficking. This arrest follows the arrest of a thirty people in the Dominican Republic (Venezuelans, Colombians and Dominicans) related to this matter. It is estimated that the operations of this network for 5 years, have allowed the laundering of 70 million U.S. dollars per year.

In December 2012, the "Departamento Nacional de Investigaciones" (DNI) and the Dominican public prosecutor, had indicated that the network operated in complicity with airport authorities, and out illegally every month for 5 years, between 2.5 and 12.5 million dollars in suitcases with false bottoms to destination Venezuela, Colombia and Panama.

The United States could request the extradition of Raymundo Peña Antonio Martinez, also suspected of murder.
