Haiti - Reconstruction : Beginning of demolition for the construction of the future City Administrative

Saturday, following the recent interventions around the next steps in the process of expropriation of buildings, in downtown Port-au-Prince, following the declaration of public utility, for the construction of the new City Administrative, the Unit for Housing Construction and of Public Buildings (UCLBP), proceeded before the press, to the first demolition operations, at the level of block of the Palace of Ministries.

The engineer Michel Présumé, Director of the Division Public of the UCLBP, explained "[...] The first buildings that we will begin to build are the Ministry of Economy and Finance (MEF), the General Administration of Customs (AGD) and the Directorate General of Taxes (DGI) [...] we will demolish all the buildings of the State who was there and then we will continue [...] On this place before there were several ministries: Economics, Planning, Public Works, Health and the Ministry of Interior, all were in this space. Now there will be only 3 buildings in this block the MEF, the AGD and the DGI [...]

At these buildings, the space will be arranged so that it is functional for both taxpayers and some 2,000 employees that will work in these three institutions, also there will be parking incorporated into the site.

[...] The studies are completely finished, now we will make bids, then we will choose the best construction companies and after we will start the work. Our hope is that this whole process is done this year, so that after the construction can begin.

These are international tenders, they are governed by standards, we'll give time for bidders to prepare their file, it usually takes 90 days, then we need to evaluate the bids, then, we send them to the National Commission for Public Procurement (CNMP). It is only when the CNMP, will gives us the OK that we will sign the contracts. At that time, there will be a mobilization period of 30 days, after which work will start [...]"
