Haiti - Environment : Martelly launches a vibrant appeal to the citizen consciousness

The President of the Republic, Michel Martelly, on the occasion of the March 22, marking the celebration of World Water Day, celebrated this year under the theme "Cooperation in the Field of Water," launches a vibrant appeal for civic consciousness on the necessity of protecting this natural resource, essential for the development, he takes advantage to also renew its commitment to ensure to the Haitian people an access to safe drinking water.

"On the occasion of the World Water Day, I would like to invite all national actors to take stock of achievements, identifying challenges and finally to work on strategies for an optimal supply of this vital resource and its intelligent use meeting our needs. This day of 22 March 2013 must feed the reflections of the population around the importance of water in general and drinking water in particular. This day is also an opportunity to question our approaches of the issue of sustainable management of natural resources," declared the President Martelly.

For the fiscal year 2012-2013, a substantial effort has been made by the Treasury which granted the DINEPA an envelope of 157 million gourdes. The results of these efforts are already observed at the level of Artibonite, Central, South-East, Nippes and North West. Other projects with the same objective are running in the departments of North East, South West, South East, Nippes and Grande Anse.

Aware of the magnitude of the problem in Haiti, the President is committed to intensify efforts to improve the situation. In this sense, he asked, once again, the collaboration of all sectors of national life.
