Haiti - Culture : «Toussaint Louverture» in Cuba 07/04/2013 10:20:01
On the occasion of the 210th anniversary of the death of Toussaint Louverture, April 7, 1803, the Embassy of the Republic of Haiti to Cuba and The Travelling Caribbean Film in collaboration with the Hollywood Unites for Haiti Foundation, and the Cinematheque of Cuba, announces that the Cuban Cinematheque, will proceed for the First time in Cuba, to a special screening on April 9, 2013, to the Chaplin Room from 5 p.m., of the biographical movie "Toussaint Louverture" (2 episodes of 90 minutes "The Flying Eagle" and "The Battle of the Eagles"), directed by Philippe Niang and starring Jimmy Jean Louis, in the title role of our hero national. This French production [Eloa Production, La Petite Reine et France Télévision] is a fiction based on historical facts. The entrance to the public interest does not require invitation. The song of the movie "Mèsi bon Dié" written in 1969 by the Haitian composer and guitarist Frantz Casseus is interpreted by James Germain and Moolight Benjamin with Max Zita and Frédérique Hédreville backing vocals. This movie was nominated in the official selections [2012] of TV Film Festival of Luchon (France) ; Film Festival "Vue d'Afrique" (montreal) ; Television Festival of Monte Carlos and nominated for Outstanding Foreign Film at Black Reel Award (Washington). "Toussaint Louverture" received the Best Film Award, Best Actor and Audience Award at the Film Festival of Los Angeles and the and the Best Actor Award and the Audience Award at the Film Festival in Trinidad and Tobago.
