Haiti - Politic : 5th Summit of the ACS, D-1

Haiti is ready to receive in Port-au-Prince from 23 to 26 April 2013 for the first time in its history, the 5th Summit of the Organization of Caribbean States (ACS), which will be held at the Karibe Convention Center where will participates representatives of 25 Member States (Heads of States and Governments), 5 associate members of the ACS and nearly 500 people, including 300 delegates (Ministers, Ambassadors and senior officials) on the theme "Revitalizing the Vision of the Association of Caribbean States for a Stronger and More United Greater Caribbean".

On the eve of this important summit which will put Haiti under the spotlight of the international media, everything seems ready according to what have assured Pierre Richard Casimir, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and the Commissioner Will Dimanche, Director of the Central Traffic Police (DCPR) at a press conference last Friday.

"This is the first time that Haiti will host such a large event with so many Presidents at the same time on its territory. This requires mobilization [...]"

"At the national police, all arrangements are already taken. All the specialized units of the National Police of Haiti are already underway for this summit to be a success similar to that of CARICOM held on 18 and 19 February," assured the Commissioner Will Dimanche, who said that the National Police of Haiti would double vigilance due to the large number of participants.

Towing services accompanied by motorized patrols will crisscross all official processions, of PNH officers will be deployed on several fixed point informed the Commissioner Dimanche who recalled that during the event any non-official vehicles will be allowed to park in the area which will be hosted foreign authorities.

If several political actors are wondering about the benefits for Haiti beyond the prestige and visibility of such an event for Haiti, which costs 40 million gourdes to the Haitian government, there is no doubt that the economic benefits local will be important.

Created July 24, 1994 in Cartagena, Colombia, the Association of Caribbean States is an organization of consultation, cooperation and concerted action in trade, transport, sustainable tourism and natural hazards in the Greater Caribbean. It also aims to establish, consolidate and expand, according to the needs the institutional structures and the cooperation agreements by taking into account the diversity of cultural identities, development needs and normative systems of the region.
