Haiti - Environment : A Haitian business finalist in an international Environmental Award

In 2009, the entrepreneur Duquesne Fednard, established the company D&E Green Enterprises to produce stoves charcoal cleaner, more efficient, reducing by half the amount of fuel needed for cooking and help alleviate the supply of charcoal previously exploited in Haiti. In January 2010, the new plant of the entrepreneur was destroyed by the earthquake, but refusing to give up and through the dedication of its staff, he decided to continue the production under tents...

Three years later, D&E Green Entreprises the company is doing well and sold nearly 33,000 improved stove and ssisted in the protection of forests in Haiti by halving the use of charcoal through the use of its stoves.

Today, D&E Green Enterprises, has been selected among the finalists of the 2013 edition of the Ashden Awards, a world-renowned event, which recognizes excellence in the field of renewable energy.

Duquesne Fednard, CEO of D&E Green Enterprises, declared "It is a great honor for D&E Green Enterprises, o have been selected among the finalists of the Award of Small Island States in development. In doing so, Ashden offers an important platform to sensitize stakeholders in our work. We aim to break the cycle of energy poverty by specializing in the manufacture and provision of inexpensive and highly effective technologies for populations in developing countries."

For her part, Sarah Butler-Sloss, founder and president of Ashden stressed "As the CEO that employees of D&E Green Enterprises, braved all obstacles to create this thriving business that markets stove both useful and affordable for the population, while helping to preserve forests."

The Ashden Awards were created in 2001 to encourage greater use of renewable energy to reduce poverty and combat climate change. D&E Green Enterprises is one of four finalists competing for the two Award of Small Island States in development, a new category introduced this year with the support of the World Bank and the Energy Sector Management Assistance Program (ESMAP) through the initiative of supportSIDS DOCK.

The names of the two winners will be announced on June 20, during a prestigious ceremony at the Royal Geographical Society in London, UK.
