As part of the fight against the high cost of living, after an initial delivery of rice in March 2013, Michaël Lecorps, Director General of the Bureau of Monetization of Development Aid Programs (BMPAD), announced that a new shipment of 18,000 tonnes of rice (10/10) imported from Vietnam, is expected to arrive in Haiti between 27 and 29 May "Further deliveries are to follow in the coming months," said the Director Lecorps, pending the performance and competitiveness of the Haitian rice industry is able to take over.

To have a policy of price stabilization, it is necessary to have a volume of quantity, an affordable price and a good product "We assure the public that the volume will be significant, able to supply the whole supply chain," said the Director of BMPAD, who says that this rice is of good quality, and requires less water and coal for cooking and "its taste is appreciated by Haitian consumers."

The Director of BMPAD states that rice "10/10" is sold cheaper than other competing products [5-7 gourds small pot], due to its reduced purchasing prices in Vietnam, as part of an agreement with the Haitian government, stating that "this rice is not subsidized. Funds from the sale of the product will be used again to buy other cargo," ensuring that at ach new shipment, the authorities will ensure that the price is as low as possible, noting that importers and distributors are also part of the Commission of price stability, set up by the Prime Minister Lamothe in September 2012.

The Director Lecorps also announced that advertisements will be broadcast in the media to promote the quality and price of the rice 10/10.

After 210 years of independence, Haiti is still struggling to feed its 10 million people. The country still imports more than 50% of its food, including rice, which represents 30% of the consumer basket.
