Haiti - Politic : Martelly and his wife in Orlando for NAACP Convention

Sunday, President Michel Martelly and First Lady Sophia Martelly will be at the 2013 National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) Convention in Orlando, Florida. The President and his wife is one of a selected number of special guests invited to attend this year's 104th Convention.

President Martelly will address delegates at the Opening Mass Meeting on Sunday, July 14, 2013. He will speak about Haiti's connection to the U.S.; Haiti and NAACP's shared history; and a progress report of the first two years of his presidency, while Sophia Martelly will give remarks at the Healthcare Luncheon on Monday, July 15, 2013.

While Sophia Martelly will give remarks at range County Convention Center, at the Healthcare Luncheon on Monday, July 15, 2013. She will discuss challenges related to health and steps of improvement for Haiti's current health system.

Recall that a delegation from the NAACP visited Haiti and met with President Martelly in March to discuss key civil rights issues including education, health care, and economic sustainability. President Martelly is the first sitting Haitian president to address the delegates at a National NAACP Convention.

The Head of State will take advantage of his stay in the United States to meet with Haitian-American Elected Officials, members of the U.S. Congress and the Board of Directors of the NAACP and the Haitian Community in Orlando where will be hosted this important event around the theme "We Shall Not Be Moved" in celebration of the 104 years spent to defend and promote the acquisition of human and civil rights for all.
