Haiti - Politic : The presidential couple to the 104th Convention of the NAACP in Orlando

On Sunday, the President Michel Martelly, and the First Lady, Mrs. Sophia Martelly, in the presence of major U.S. and Haitian personalities participated in Orlando, to the 104th annual convention of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP).

"In my capacity of President of the Republic of Haiti, I am honored by this opportunity offered to me to offer my congratulations and those of my country to an organization that is at the forefront of the struggle for equality of all citizens. Your rich history of 104 years, led by the great leaders of the past, from W.E.B. Dubois to Thurgood Marshall, to the generation occupying the seats today and which reaping the benefits of a legacy of activism, has improved countless lives and changed millions of hearts and souls," declared the Head of State in his speeches.

The President Martelly, who expressed his impatience to welcome every member of the NAACP in Haiti, recalled the historical links between the first black republic in the world and this prestigious organization "With the NAACP, us in Haiti we have fought for Haiti Human Rights and equitable for all, not just the United States, but globally. Our history is connected and shaped by slavery and our mutual struggle for freedom and dignity," stressing that the result of the slave revolt in Haiti and the movement for civil rights in the United States remained so far, models of historical inspiration and important reminders of what can be achieved when we collect the collective power of our people.

For her part, Monday, First Lady Sophia Martelly, in his address to the "Orange County Convention Center," emphasized on the challenges of health and her dream to see all Haitians benefit worthy of health care. "We have a moral responsibility to ensure that our children grow up healthy and realize their dreams," said Sophia Martelly.

In addition, the Head of State took advantage of his stay in the United States to meet with elected Haitian-Americans, members of Congress and the Board of Directors of the NAACP as well as the Haitian Community in Orlando.
