Following an important seizure, in Hinche, of alcohol unfit for human consumption, the Ministries of Commerce, of the Economy, Health and Justice, remember, that the import of ethanol in Haiti is strictly regulated.

NOTICE :

"The Ministry of Trade and Industry, the Ministry of Economy and Finance, the Ministry of Public Health and Population and the Ministry of Justice and Public Safety recall that according to the notices of 14 February 2011 and March 22, 2012 and January 6, 2012 of the Ministry of Trade and Industry incorporating the provisions of the releases of 23 October 1996 and 28 May 2011, the import of ethanol in Haiti is subject to prior authorization request to the Ministry of Commerce and Industry. This provision applies to all ethyl alcohol (phlegm or raw alcohol, dehydrated alcohol, rectified alcohol and extra neutral or REN, pure alcohol, denatured alcohol).

This recall intervenes following the recent seizure, in Hinche, of 36 barrels of alcohol of 54 gallons each in a truck from the Dominican Republic without authorization, or customs document. The cargo was seized and the driver arrested.

The results of the analysis of samples of the product by two different laboratories, under the supervision of the Directorate of Quality Control and Consumer Protection of the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, showed that the seized product was denatured alcohol containing highly toxic substances. and unfit for consumption.

Alarmed by the disastrous consequences of the consumption of this alcohol by the population, these Ministries recall that justice will exercise extreme firmness against any offender endangering the lives of consumers in Haiti.
