Haiti - Carnival of Flowers 2013 : Review of the first day

President Michel Martelly and his wife Sophia Martelly, attended in Port-au-Prince, to the first day of the parade of the 2nd edition of the Carnival of Flowers, which takes place on 28, 29 and 30 July, around the theme "Yon Ayisyen, yon pye bwa ", with the participation of several dozen masked groups, walking bands, musical floats and allegorical floats with kings and queens.

The first day passed without major incident, with a very high participation of revelers. The crowd also welcomed the opportunity offered to it to recreate itself and at the same time to discover other aspects of Haitian culture.

From the Sylvio Cator Stadium to the B.L.V.D Jean Jacques Dessalines, while passing through the Rue des Casernes and the Champs de Mars, official parade route, a festive atmosphere complemented by choreography masterfully interpreted amazed the participants. Despite the rain that entered the party for some time, the atmosphere was not interrupted either. Hundreds of thousands of visitors, from all over the country and abroad, celebrated cheerfully.

In regard to safety, all measures have been taken to facilitate the smooth running of three days. More than 5,000 agents of the National Police of Haiti (PNH) are fully mobilized to ensure the safety of participants.

Unfortunately, Jean Noel Cerisier a participant standing standing on the musical float "Ambyans" made ​​a fatal fall Sunday night, after falling asleep, this is the only victim reported for the first day. In addition, the Commissioner Michel-Ange Gédéon, confirmed that an officer from Port-au-Prince, was hit by a bullet Sunday evening in the town of Cité Soleil, in uncertain circumstances. The Policeman was taken to hospital and his condition is considered stable.

In total 183 people were treated, none was hospitalized.

President Martelly which welcomes the smooth running of the Carnival of Flowers 2013, called the population for caution, mutual respect and solidarity during the last day.
