Haiti - Reconstruction : Second phase of renovation work of neighborhood of Jalousie

On Wednesday, Prime Minister, Laurent Lamothe, has launched the second phase of infrastructure projects and of renovation of neighborhood of Jalousie located in the hills of Petion-ville.

The Government plans to continue beautification, repair, painting and plastering of 4,000 houses of Jalousie where 1,020 homes have been renovated in the first phase. 1.3 km stretch leading to Jalousie will be rehabilitated. This work will also involve drainage and channeling of oads. Meanwhile, 2.6 km of streets will be "adoquined".

TThe Head of Government has promised to build a football field in Jalousie, covered with a synthetic grass similar to that of Sylvio Cator stadium. This new sports facilities will include locker rooms, bleachers, ticket offices and electric lighting "The urban renewal project in Jalousie participates of the commitment of the Administration Martelly and of my Government to put the country under construction. 800 projects are carried on throughout the country. We create the necessary investment for job creation conditions, of wealth, of sustainable growth in the country [...] "

The launching ceremony of the project of Jalousie allowed the Head of Government to engage in a social dialogue with local residents. He took the opportunity to inquire about their drinking water needs. To this end, the Director General of the National Directorate of Water Supply and Sanitation (DINEPA) was instructed to meet with the executive management of the Unit for Housing Construction and of Public Buildings (UCLBP), in order to provide urgent response to drinking water problems faced by residents. In addition, the Prime Minister announced the implementation of sub-programs of "Ede pèp" such as "Panye solidarite" and "Ti manman cheri" to assist the population.

Through the work of urban renewal in Jalousie the Administration Martelly and the Government Lamothe aimed at changing the image of the area and to improve the conditions of life of its residents. Indeed, these projects will create in the area 2,500 direct jobs. A budget of about 5 million U.S. dollars from the public treasury, of Petrocaribe funds and donations of several friendly countries is allocated to the execution of these works, which will be inaugurated in March 2014.
