President Michel Martelly traveling abroad, met in Bahamas Prime Minister Perry Christi, according to the newspaper "The Nassau Guardian" this meeting took place while President Martelly had come to attend the celebration of the 70th anniversary of the First Minister of the Bahamas.

During the meeting between the two statesmen, discussions focused on strengthening bilateral economic relations and the problem of illegal immigration of Haitian nationals. The Bahamian government has confirmed its intention to develop greater economic relations with Haiti and hopes to find with Haiti a solution to the migration problem.

For his part, President Michel Martelly told local reporters that the strengthening of economic relations between the two countries, could help reduce the flow of illegal immigrants from Haiti, who leave the country due to lack of sufficient jobs . He also asked the Prime Minister to send a delegation of high-level officials and businessmen in Haiti, in order to identify and evaluate investment opportunities in the country.

After his short stay in the Bahamas, the President Martelly went August 23 in Suriname to attend the 11th edition of the Festival of Arts of the Caribbean (CARIFESTA). This 11th edition takes place from August 16 to 25, showcases the cultural expressions of artists from over 34 countries in the Caribbean region including the 15 CARICOM countries, some Asian countries (Indonesia, China, Japan), Latin America (Brazil, Peru) as well as Cuba and the Dominican Republic.

Haiti is present for the first time in its history to this great Caribbean Festival in the fields of music, crafts, dance, traditions, cuisine and fashion. An ideal platform to promote Haiti as a true tourist destination.

At the closure of the festival, the President Martelly will receive the torch from Suriname, since Haiti is the host organizer of this important Festival in 2015.
