Haiti - Sports : Sport Business Forum, the beginning of a reform era

Thursday, Magalie Racine, the Minister of Youth, Sports and Civic Action, participated in the first Sport Business Forum, opened by Prime Minister Laurent Lamothe, at the Royal Oasis Hotel in Petionville.

In a room full of athletes, leaders of federations and sports associations, businessmen, investors, politicians, nearly thirty of Haitian and foreign speakers spoke on various topics, who invited the private and public sectors, to reflect the challenges and opportunities of the establishment of a sports policy, of development of sports facilities and the massive investment in the sport.

Speaking at the opening ceremony of the forum, the Minister Racine, who introduced the sport as economic field that can generate capital directly and indirectly, has stressed the need to organize Clubs, Associations leagues and federations as real machines that can provide resources for the benefit of their members.

Stressing the role of regulation and operation of sports events across the country, Ms. Racine, who conceives this forum as the beginning of a reform era of sport in the country, invited athletes actors together to find innovative ideas that will facilitate the departure of Sports Haitian "No leader, no athlete can live from his sport trade in Haiti. This must and will change !"

More than a dozen executives of MJSAC participated in this forum as speakers, moderators and rapporteurs in the various workshops on the following topics : The sports market in Haiti Sport ; Sport: an income-generating factor ; Sport, Media, and investment and strategies ; Planning, infrastructure and development of the sports sector ; Sport as a factor of development and social advancement ; Women's sports : professionalization and market ; The marketing influence of famous athletes and sportsmen.

The Ministry is convinced of the potential of this sector "which may have an economic weight in the development of the country and become a vehicle for promoting and social harmonization, a tool for development and wealth creation."
