Haiti - Economy : Macroeconomic Situation (2012-2013)

In order to evaluate and rule on the various donor commitments in the framework of their partnership with the Haitian Government for the budgetary support, an important presentation of the Department of Economic Research was held at the Ministry of Economy and Finance around the assessment of the macroeconomic situation of Haiti as of September 2013.

Were present at the working session, representatives of : the International Monetary Fund, the World Bank, the French Development Agency , the Spanish Cooperation, the European Union, the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), the American Embassy and of Canada. To better defend the interests of Haiti and guide, according to the objectives and priorities, were present the senior executives of : the General Administration of Customs, the Office of Management and Human Resources, the Ministry of Planning and External Cooperation, the Directorate General of Taxes (DGI), the National Directorate of Water Supply and Sanitation (DINEPA), the Office of Minister Delegate responsible for Energy Security, the Directors General of the Budget and of Treasury of MEF, the heads of the various units of the Ministry and members of the cabinet of the Minister.

The presentation mainly revolved around the evolution of the growth rate of Gross Domestic Product (GDP), the situation of the current economy and that of the public revenues which recorded an increase of 13% of total expenditure and +9% for capital expenditures (2012-2013). Through the efforts and resources mobilized, the export increased by +19% and a slight increase of 5% of imports.

The dynamic implemented in the strengthening of business environment in Haiti, has also helped to know an increase in the sector of private credit as well as remittances from the diaspora (+10%).
