Haiti - Environment : Conservation of natural resources in Grand Anse

At the initiative of the community of Grand Anse, 3 days of workshops reflections on environmental issues in the department, to which the Ministry of Agriculture, Natural Resources and Rural Development has partnered, were held on Nov. 11 (municipalities of Beaumont Beaumont, Pestel, Corail), Nov. 12 (municipalities of Bonbon Chambellan, Abricots, Bonbon, Moron, Jérémie, Roseaux) and Nov. 13 (municipalities of Dame-Marie Dame-Marie, Anse d’Hainault).

These workshops, which involve all the vital sectors of the department and a variety of actors, each exploiting in their own way the local resources, relies significantly on the deep commitment of personalities from the region. Thus, the awareness spot was a contribution of the national artist, Jean Jean Roosevelt. The message is clear : the mobilization of active forces of the Grande Anse for the formation of large "Koumnot Regional" to deal with threats to natural resources.

These places of discussion and debate, feeds the process of development of a departmental action plan for the preservation of natural resources, which will be developed after these workshops, at a forum of synthesis and civic engagement on November 22, 2013 to Jérémie and which be a framework of work in line with the Triennial Agricultural Recovery Programme 2013-2016 of the Ministry through the sub program of Infrastructure Development and Rehabilitation of Watershed. Friday will also be signed the declaration of citizen engagement, which aims to ensure the implementation of the action plan and the implementation of a Multi-sectoral local management committee of the provisions adopted.

This initiative is widely supported by the Minister of Agriculture Thomas Jacques and the Secretary of State for Agricultural Recovery, Joseph Vernet "announces the great crusade to raise awareness for the conservation of natural resources of the department, which is essential to ensure the sustainability of agricultural production systems," said the Ministry.
