Haiti - Environment : Phase II of works of the ravine Mangonès in Martissant

After 32 months of work by the Haitian firm Gataphy in a good part of the gully Mangonès, a new stage has been reached. Since the beginning of November, the drainage works were launched in the second part of the gully.

At the end of September, the firm Gataphy under the supervision of the engineering office, Beta Ingénieurs Conseils, resented the first part of the work of the gully Mangonès, which were mainly financed by the European Union. This work is very important for the drainage of stormwater in Martissant, was divided into two phases.

This first part of the gully measures approximately 532 m and crosses the Memorial Park of Martissant, the street Crepsac and the Katherine Dunham cultural center, to lead on the neighborhood Soray. The Ministry of Public Works was the contracting authority and the Knowledge and Freedom Foundation (FOKAL) worked as delegated mastery of work.

Additional work: retaining walls, a masonry revetment, a recovery of channel bottom, and some additional footbridges, not covered by the initial study, was supported by funds from the French Development Agency (AFD).

The other side of the gully about 318 m, through the neighborhood of Delwi-la Paix (zone Ti Bois), until the Memorial. This part of the ravine in a highly urbanized area, is taken entirely by funds from AFD. Work will be performed by the same stakeholders and will last 4 months. The Unit of Housing Construction and of Public Buildings (UCLBP) will be the mastery of work delegated of the Ministry and the FOKAL will in turn, monitor the work and take care of the mastery of urban and social structure.

Remember that it is part of his work in the Martissant that the Knowledge and Freedom Foundation (FOKAL) had launched in August 2010 a project called "system of solid waste management" with funding from the European Union. This project, among other activities, planned the total recovery of the pipe of the gully Mangonès.
