Haiti - Tourism : UNIDO Mission in Jacmel

Following a request for assistance from the Ministry of Tourism for the zone of ​​Cap Haitien, a prospecting mission led by two experts from the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), Mr. Marllen Bakalli and Gieulio Vinaccia visited last week Jacmel.

The purpose of their 48-hours mission, was to understand the dynamics of tourism of Jacmel in order to develop a program in the North in order to improve the tourism industry by integrating local products especially handicrafts, pottery, brick and optimization of existing cassaverie with a strong cultural significance, which includes the most disadvantagedpopulation especially women and young people.

The mission visited the group "Apladem" a pilot workshop of women agro-craft of Meyer, led by Ms. Uzale Remay. This workshop brings together 2,000 people working in the cassaverie and the processing of fruits very famous, in the region and in Port-au-Prince.

The visit of historic center of Jacmel led to the discovery of Art Galleries, of technical and the quality of crafts, that make you want to buy.

"Jacmel is a full vase and a wonderful cultural experience. This city must rely on an elite tourism and responsible tourism. The Haitian gastronomy, wWhich embodies a certain art of living, is perhaps even a sense of happiness," commented Gieulio Vinaccia.

For his part, Marllen Bakali, focused on a much more aggressive approach towards the outside that would allow to develop local products, make transfers of skills at the national level and better sell the destination Haiti.
