The President of the Republic, Michel Martelly, has welcomed the election of the socialist Michelle Bachelet, for a second time (11 March 2006-11 March 2010), to the Chilean Presidency, with 62% of votes against the conservative, Evelyn Matthei (38% of votes) in the elections held Sunday, December 15, 2013.

On behalf of the Government and people of Haiti, the Head of State formulates his best wishes to his Chilean counterpart when accessing once more at the summit of the State, three years after the first office held between 2006 and 2010.

The President of the Republic, who renews its commitment to strengthen relations of Haiti with Chile, wishes that the cooperation between the two country be increasingly fruitful for the benefit of both peoples.

Michelle Bachelet Jeria, born September 29, 1951 in Santiago, is member of the Socialist Party, President of the Republic of Chile for a term of four years from 11 March 2006 to 11 March 2010, and again elected to this office for a second mandate 15 December 2013.

She was Minister of Health and Minister of Defence in the government appointed by President Ricardo Lagos. From 2008 to 2009 she was president of the Union of South American Nations and from 2010 to 2013, she is the head of UN Women. In 2006, she was ranked as the 17th most powerful woman in the world by Forbes magazine. In 2007, she was ranked 27th.

Besides Spanish, she speaks fluent English, German, French, some Portuguese and has some knowledge of Russian.
