Haiti - Politic : The PSP tightens its grip on the Lower House

After the election last week, of the new President of the Lower House, the former President of the pro-government majority group "Parliamentarians for Stability and Progress" (PSP), Mr. Me Jacques Stevenson Thimoléon (deputy of Petit-Goâve); after the election of memebers of bureau of Deputies, composed exclusively of members of the PSP https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-10310-haiti-politic-jacques-stevenson-thimoleon-new-president-of-the-chamber-of-deputies.html ; the Deputy Altès Toussaint [Saint-Marc], the new President of the PSP, has announced its intention to propose candidates for the presidency of all standing committees of the lower house, while promising that members of the PSP will continue to support government, without neglecting their duty to monitor government actions.

With majority of 57 deputies, the blocks of the opposition, have little hope of preventing the takeover by the PSP of Commissions.

Former President of the Chamber of Deputies, Jean Tholbert Alexis, who says he left office with a sense of accomplishment, asked his colleagues to provide good collaboration to the President Thimoléon and expressed confidence in his ability to complete the legislative work of the House of Representatives.

Congressman Sadrack Dieudonné, President of the opposition bloc "Parliamentarians for Institutional Strengthening" (PRI), described as "miscalculation" the taking control of all positions of bureau and of refusal to share these positions with other political blocs, a diversity which according to him is "the guarantor of democracy". Nevertheless, the Deputy affrimed "we will continue to work for the institutional strengthening. We will not practice the policy of the empty chair [...]"

A opposition frustrated as a whole, which nevertheless said, usually ready to collaborate.

However, despite its dominicnation in the lower house, the PSP will no be able to avoid a collaboration with the Senate, whose President Dieuseul Desras Simon is known for his critical and position against the head of state and prime Minister...
