Haiti - Culture : Essay Contest for young Haitian 22/09/2010 13:39:06
The Foundation Maurice A. Sixto (FMAS), launched yesterday Tuesday, September 21, 2010, a literary contest for the young students and Haitian academics from 18 to 24 years. This contest will be carried out around the topic "which kind of woman will be Tisentaniz in 2050 if nothing is done to change the system of the restavèk."
Jean Jude Auguste points out that Tisentaniz is the title of the one of the success plays of the Haitian actor Maurice Sixto [disappeared today]. Where one of the main characters of the play, incarnates the exploitation, the ill-treatment and the suffering of the children in domesticity in Haiti [restavèk].
He indicated that this essay contest where participants can speak French or Creole enable young people to showcase their talents and reflect on the situation of child domestic workers in Haiti.
The inscriptions to this contest will be for the 4 to 25 October and the awards ceremony November 25, 2010. Works will be judged on the criteria of originality, research of solutions to the problem of child rights, the role of women in society and the rights of women.
Gertrude C. Stay, coordinator of the FMAS, said "this competition will give another opportunity to reflect on the role of women and children in rebuilding the country" and that after this contest, the FMAS will undertake a new assessment of its awareness campaign on the issue of child domestic workers in Haiti, initiated in 2009.
