Haiti - Justice : One more step towards the overhaul of the Penal Code

Friday in Port-au-Prince, the Presidential Commission for the Reform of Justice, organized in the presence of Me Pierre-Richard Casimir, the Minister of Justice, a restitution workshop of the Draft Penal Code.

The many innovations in the new code have been the subject of discussions among all judicial actors in the jurisdiction of the Court of Appeal of Port-au-Prince. Following the workshops, participants made comments and suggestions to the Commission headed by former Minister of Justice, Me. Jean Joseph Exumé.

The President of the Court of Cassation, that of the Court of Appeal of Port-au-Prince and the Dean of the Court of First Instance of Port-au-Prince, took part in these workshops along with other jurists and lawyers interested in the question of updating the penal legislation, old almost 200 years...

The Minister Casimir, expressed the interest of the Government brings to the overhaul of codes of the Republic, which are mostly obsolete. Note that in addition to updating the Haitian Penal Code, the Commission proposes to work on a code of penal procedure, which will replace the current Code of Criminal Procedure (code d’instruction criminelle).
