The many protests that followed the publication of preliminary results of elections (last Tuesday), have been victims of many slippages. A situation which served as a pretext for delinquent and criminal elements of the society, which vandalized, plundered, damaged or destroyed many stores and trade, set fire to private and public buildings, destroyed vehicles, stolen and damaged residences and paralyzed completely the economy of the country: businesses, industries, public transport and by air etc...

Considerable damage are to deplore especially in Port-au-Prince, in the metropolitan area and in Les Cayes, where the riots were the most violent. The economist Eddie Labossiere, president of the Haitian Association of Economists (EHE) estimates to nearly 250 million dollars, the cost of damage and economic loss this week of post-election riots. He launched an emergency appeal to the protagonists of the crisis to find a way out of crisis.

Haiti has been hit hard by the earthquake of January 12, the hurricane season and now by the cholera epidemic, Haiti is now out of breath, said Eddy Labossière that attracts the attention of the protagonists on the risks facing the country, to face foreign intervention more pronounced if the crisis is not resolved. Eddie Labossiere said that historically, occupations experienced by Haiti, have generally been made in response to serious crises.

Economist Eddie Labossiere has once again fingered the international community, which, he says, "does not have any will to contribute to a way out of crisis since it is part itself of the problem [...] it spends millions of dollars to keep a foreign presence in the country while their presence has failed to bring improvement in the lives of Haitians".

Minustah is the subject of numerous protests, accused among other things, to have imported cholera in Haiti, its inability to provide security for Haitians, burrs that have caused the deaths of people in demonstrations, or to have remained "relatively passive" in front of the violence during the elections.

The positive contribution of Minustah in supporting humanitarian action, does not make unfortunately forget these facts within the population.
