Since 2013, the Ministries of Environment and Agriculture, with the support of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), have implemented the project "Strengthening Resilience to Change Climate and Disaster Risk Reduction in Agriculture to Improve Food Security in Haiti after the earthquake", funded by the Global Environment Facility (GEF).

This project spread over 4 Communes of the departments of the West (Grand-Gôave) and the South-East (Bainet, Belle-Anse and Anse-à-Pitres) reached more than 2,500 producers and produced the following results :

1. Identification and multiplication of seeds and climatic-resilient plant material: 12 Groupings of Artisanal Seed Producers (GPAS) have been set up. Various seed varieties were distributed: nearly 70 tons of chicken corn, 77.5 tons of ti kamyon, 65 tons of DPC 40 / Xrav bean, 15.6 tons of besebas peas, 8 tons Sorghum, 8 tons of unknown peas, 9.3 tons of peas and 20.4 tons of congo peas.

Cuttings were also distributed (cassava, potato, banana suckers, yam minisets). In addition, 260 farmers and 187 seed growers / multipliers were trained in agricultural seed multiplication techniques. Not to mention the distribution of vegetable seeds and / or agricultural implements (pickaxes, hoes, pruners) to beneficiary farmers during each crop year.

2. Establishment of 18 Champs Schools Peasants (CEP) for learning and replication of Good Agricultural and Environmental Practices (BPAE): 43 trainers and 23 CEP facilitators were trained. 10 Local Agricultural Risk Management Plans (GRDA) were produced; 120 members of the GRDA Committees were trained in basic concepts in risk management and climate change, as well as 130 community leaders. 126 people were trained in the Early Warning System (SAP).

3. Identification, application and dissemination of good practices and establishment of sustainable production systems: This project has promoted the dissemination and replication of Good Agricultural and Environmental Practices (BPAE) (corridor cultivation, agroforestry, grass strips, Mulching, cropping association, ridging, live ramps, minimal plowing, among others); Training of leading technicians and planters; The setting up of model plots as well as nurseries; The distribution of fruit and forest seedlings.

The Departmental Directors of the Environment and Agriculture of the South-East expressed their satisfaction with the positive impact of the project, in particular in terms of popularization of BPAEs, of training for farmers, and without forgetting the introduction of the Champ École Paysan approach.
