Haiti - Social : Goudougoudou, 8 years after Haiti remembers

This Friday, January 12, 2018 brings back the sad anniversary of the earthquake of January 12, 2010 which caused, according to estimates, the death of more than 300,000 Haitians and the total destruction of many infrastructures.

The Communal Administration of Port-au-Prince takes the opportunity of the commemoration of this painful event to express its solidarity and sympathy to all Haitian families who, 8 years after this tragedy still mourn their missing.

The City Hall of Port-au-Prince wishes to inform that the day of January 12 is a worked day considering that it is declared "National day of reflection and awareness on Haiti's vulnerability to risks and disasters" by the Government of the Republic of Haiti.

In addition, the General Secretariat of the Presidency reminds all sectors of the nation of the provisions of the Decree of 28 December 2016 relating to the commemoration of 12 January:

"Article 1: January 12 of each year is declared National day of reflection and awareness on Haiti's vulnerability to risks and disasters.

Article 2: On the occasion of this Day, sensitization, information and training programs will be organized at the national level by the various public and private institutions, especially schools and universities, on behavior and measures o be adopted during and after natural disasters for the protection of life and property.

Article 3: During this Day, appropriate programs and activities will be organized in memory of the victims of natural disasters in the country.

Article 4: During the national day of reflection and awareness on Haiti's vulnerability to risks and disasters, the national flag will be lowered, discos and other similar institutions will remain closed, and radio and television stations are invited to program programs and music of circumstance."

The Ministry of Culture announces a ceremony of recollection and floral offering by the 3 powers of the State, in memory of the missing, at the memorial of St. Christophe, this Friday, January 12, 2018 from 8:00 a.m.

After the floral offering and an ecumenical ceremony, President Jovenel Moïse will proceed to the ceremony of laying the foundation stone for the reconstruction of the National Palace 8 years to the day after its partial destruction.
